A new day, a new name pops up in the Iowa State coaching search.

Harvard coach Tim Murphy has contacted the ISU athletic department about the vacancy, a source close to the coach said.

Paul Sheehy, Murphy’s agent, confirmed that his client would be interested in the ISU job, but would not comment about any communication between Murphy and the Cyclones.

Murphy led Harvard to a 9-1 record and its second consecutive conference championship. In 15 years, Murphy has amassed a 97-53 record at the school and won five conference titles. He has also coached at Maine and Cincinnati.

Former ISU coach Gene Chizik left for Auburn on Dec. 13. Chizik was 5-19 in his two years in Ames. In the past week almost two dozen names have been linked to the Cyclone football coaching job.
