Iowa State distance runner Lisa Koll won the 5,000 meter race while Kianna Elahi won the 400 hurdles Sunday as the Cyclone women placed fourth at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday. It was the best finish in team history.

“The best thing about the women’s performance is that it was an across the board effort,” ISU coach Corey Ihmels said. “We scored in the relays, the hurdles, the field events and in the distance events.”

Koll shattered the meet record in the 5,000 by more than 30 seconds. She won the race in 15 minutes, 22.42 seconds. ISU had the top three finishers in the event, with Semehar Tesfaye (16:08.67) coming in second and Betsy Saina (116:10.69) placing third.

The trio also swept the top three spots in the 1,600.

“To do it in my last Big 12 race and to do it with my teammates makes this special,” Koll said.
Koll concluded her career with nine Big 12 titles.

Elahi won the 400 hurdles in 57.40, edging Texas’ Angelee Cooper (57.55).

Erin Penticoff (2:08.11) finished second in the 800. ISU placed fourth in the 4x100 relay, finishing in 46.37. Also, Jenna Caffrey (13.56) was fifth in the 100 hurdles.

Texas A&M won the conference title for the women with 157 points. ISU had 89.

The ISU men placed 12th as Nebraska took first with 118 points.

Hillary Bor won the steeplechase in 8:47.82. Brandon Rooney (3:44.62) was third in the 1,500. The Cyclones placed third in the 4x100 relay, finishing with a time of 40.96. Also, Kiel Uhl (14:09.92) was fifth in the 5,000.
