ISU heads to Big 12 bowl

That was quite a sweat for Iowa State fans.

Grant Ressel’s 27-yard field goal as time expired gave Missouri a 41-39 win over Kansas and secured the Cyclones a spot in a Big 12-affiliated bowl.

Early on it looked like the Jayhawks would win their sixth game. The Todd Reesing (498 passing yards and six touchdowns) to Dezmon Briscoe (242 yards, two touchdowns) connection couldn’t be stopped and Kansas jumped to a 21-10 first half lead.

The Tigers managed to take the lead in the third quarter thanks to 17 straight points at 36-28 only to see the Jayhawks take a 39-38 lead as Briscoe scored a 74-yard touchdown and Jacob Branstetter field goal.

But the prayers of ISU fans were answered as Missouri got a safety and a field goal to win the game. Talk about an unlikely, unexpected ending.

For the Cyclones this means that they are likely headed to the Independence or Texas Bowl.
