Nixt, Harris win events at Northwestern Invitational

Iowa State is in second place after the first day of the six-team Northwestern Invitational. The Cyclones accumulated 216 points, behind host Northwestern’s 414.

ISU’s Jeli Nixt won the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.46 seconds, while Dani Harris won the 200 IM in 2:02.92, the third-best time in school history.

At the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Tien Tran set a new career high (295.0 points) while winning the 1-meter diving event.

Day two of the Northwestern Invitational begins at 10 a.m. today, while the divers compete in the 3-meter portion of their meet today in Lincoln.
