Freshman Kianna Elahi captured first place in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday, highlighting Cyclone competition at the Kansas Relays.

Elahi set a personal record time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 59.7.

“It’s really important right now (to set a personal record) because this is the time of the season when you want to have your stride progression down,” assistant coach Nate Wiens said. “You want to start getting into the flow of the race (at this point in the season), especially in the 400-meter hurdles.
(Kianna) has her stride progression down over the hurdles, and she’s really getting into the flow of the race.”

Junior Lashawn Wright captured second place in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Wright finished with a time of 11.89 and 24.33, respectively. Wright was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished third. Along with junior Jenna Caffrey, senior Leia Jackson and junior Monique Hawkins, the Cyclone’s put up a time of 46.48. Hawkins also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash finals, finishing with a time of 58.4.

Senior Eric Parker finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles final with a time of 14.63. The Cyclone men’s 1600-meter sprint medley team finished second with a time of 3:33.98. The entire team consisted of freshman, including Tim Jardine, Bryce Colston, Matt Brinkley and Grant Jacobson.
